Sunday Round-Up

Sunday, Sunday and what are you up to this Sunday?

For all the Mothers in the UK (and anywhere else that has Mothering Sunday today!)
HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY!

Have you seen the new issue of Craft Stamper yet? My Quixotic Paperie DT buddies Judy and Kim Costello both have lovely articles and look Judy's gorgeous card is on the cover! Well done girls!

I have a little make in this month's issue too, it is only a little ATC in the Idea Gallery on page 52! Here is a little sneaky peek:

I used Unity and {Ippity} stamps available from Emily at Make The Day Special. The sparkle is added with some ZIG Wink Of Stella.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Weekend Special Offer

A quick heads up for you:

This weekend Emily has free P&P on all orders over £10 at Make The Day Special and a free goody bag for orders over £20.

Might be Shopping time!

Bright Little Oliver

I started the week with a bright orange with blue make for La-La Land Crafts so I thought I would end the week with a bright orange with blue make but this time for Quixotic Paperie.

This little boy is Oliver from The Greeting Farm, so cute! The bright papers are from the Basic Grey Offbeat paper pack.

The stitching detail uses the Sew Easy Tool with the blue floss and Burst head.

I've coloured Oliver with ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens from Kuretake and the orange base paper is also from Kuretake.

I wonder if it would be possible to do a colour themed week, just one colour combo for all the makes in a week - what do you think? Could you do it?

Have a fun weekend.

Core Colour ZIG Art and Graphic Pens From Kuretake

Hey guys, I wanted to show you some cards I've recently made for Kuretake to go with their packs of  ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens.

You guys know how much I love these pens and not just because I am on the Kuretake Design team! If you want to learn more about these pens then have a look at the post I wrote about the water-based dye ink ZIG Art and Graphics Twin pens.

Kuretake do a range of different colours in sets of four, six and twelve pens and I have recently been making samples with some of these sets.

The first set I want to show you is the Core Colours set of four pens (red, green, blue, yellow) which is a great starter set if you just want to try the pens out.

The first sample I made used the pens as they are by colouring shapes, punched with Kurepunchs, with the brush end and writing using the 0.8mm Tip.

The next sample utilises the water-based aspect of these pens and the fact that the ZIG Art and Graphic Twin Pens dye ink mixes nicely. So I did some watercolour washes of ZIG Art and Graphic Twin Pens colour over a clear embossed stamped tag.

The little flower-shaped paper clip and ribbon are both from Kuretake as well.

Have a fun Friday folks and hope you get to do lots of colouring today!

WOYWW And A Collage Backgrounds Tutorial

It's What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday (pop on over to Julia's blog to find out more) and on my desk I have:

Some bits and pieces to recycle into art!

I have a tutorial to share but for the WOYWWs feel free to hop on to the next person!

*****

A number of folk have asked about how I make the backgrounds that I've been using in recent makes so here you go folks!

The photo above gives you a clue at some of the things I use for my backgrounds: old books, music scores, maps, magazines, newspaper, telephone books, old dress patterns. You can use this technique on all sorts of bits and pieces.

What you need is your collage material and a base card to work on; I use old scraps, and the thickness will depend on what you subsequently want to use the piece for. As a starting point try some card of over 240gsm to play with.

I have a dedicated glue brush for all my glue work, a little nylon bristle paint brush. You want to dilute some PVA to the consistency of single cream, I usually store mine in an old bottle. You might also want to have a mini-bottle of water to hand and to work on a plastic sheet.

I've torn my collage materials into strips; you can make the pieces as small or as big as you want but bear in mind what the final piece will be used for and, if it's going to be something small, you might want to make the collage pieces small otherwise you won't get that lovely texture of the torn edges.

To start, spread a layer of the diluted PVA over the base card and don't let it dry, you can always spritz with water to keep it moist.

Start adding your strips of collage materials to the wet base card and brush more diluted PVA over the top. If you are working with collage material that is glossy or thick, it is a good idea to brush the underside with diluted PVA before putting onto the base card. You want the collage pieces to be pretty saturated with the PVA.

Everything is going to get pretty wet and pretty sticky! But that's the fun bit!

I add my pieces as randomly as I can and not really worrying which way around the collage piece is.

So keep adding bits to the base card, with a layer of diluted PVA, then a new strip of collage material and a layer of diluted PVA over the top and, if you need, spritz with water if you think areas are drying or add more diluted PVA.

If you are working on a plastic sheet then once the card is dry it should just peel off of the plastic. But I often peel mine off whilst wet and dry it on the top of some flat-topped paint bottles. It will take a while to dry, often taking overnight, but you can help it along with a heat tool if you are that impatient!

Need some more ideas? How about...

Use your collage with distress inks

Use your collage with paints

Use with watercolour pens like the ZIG Art and Graphic Twin from Kuretake

Using textured card, like corrugated card, as the base card

Pass the collaged card through a die-cutting machine in an embossing folder

Use fabric as the collage pieces

Yep, the possibilities are endless and I can't wait to see what you do!

Have fun

Kim

Shhh! Don't Feed The Monster!

Got a bit of a monster for you all today but he is a friendly monster, well, sort of friendly.

Perhaps you better tiptoe around here today and just avoid making any sudden movements.

That's right just scroll down carefully!

See he is quite harmless really - whose coughing? Shhhh! Quick leave the room...

It's Ok, he is still smiling!

Phew

This little monster is from the My Cute Stamp Kit Eeek! A Monster! Available over at Make The Day Special.

The tag is one of my collage backgrounds (tutorial coming soon!) and I coloured him with ZIG Kurecolor Inks which can be used like alcohol ink.

The fibres and screw top brads are also from Kuretake.

Ok, so I'm going to sneak off quietly now...

Catch you later!

Shhh!

Weekend is over and we are into another week - but you did not need me to tell you that now did you? So how was your weekend? Get any crafting done? Anyone make it to the NEC for the craft show? My weekend was filled with paint and DT work - great fun!

Well to start this week I've got some more sunshine for you with Dress Up Marci from La-La Land Crafts.

She is available at the moment as a digi-stamp over at the La-La Land Crafts Blog.

I've kept the background quite simple and added the splash of complementary colour to make her pop even more.

Enjoy your Monday, hope you get lots done today!

Artistic Outpost Birds Of A Feather

Hi all, I've had my sewing machine out, I haven't done any machine sewing on cards for what seems like ages but I thought that this card really needed it!

It is little vintage style make using the Birds of a Feather stamp set which is one of the new gorgeous Artistic Outpost stamp sets that Elaine is now stocking in Quixotic Paperie

The paper is from Cosmo Cricket and I've distressed the papers and added some washes of colour to the images with distress inks.

The little swirl is one of the alterable Artisan Elements from Pink Paislee and I've added a touch of Viva Decor Gloss gel pen and some acrylic paint.

Well enjoy your Saturday.

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Hello What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday-ers, how are you all doing today?

Lots of mess on my desk today, I'm in the middle of doing some samples for Kuretake and have been doing a lot of stamping with the ZIG Art and Graphic Twin Pens, hence the piles of stamps teetering on the edges of my desk.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to get to meet Buffy from Kuretake and two of my Kuretake Design Team buddies Emma from That's Life and Sarah from Sarah Hurley. We had a lovely lunch and crafty chat - so a big WOYWW wave to you guys!

Right before I run to do some more stamping don't forget to pop on over to Julia's blog Stamping Ground to join this week's WOYWW.

Catch you later.
