What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

A Sewing Machine! Yep this is my work space, Yep it is a complete mess, and yep I'm trying hard to sort it out LOL! I am so not a tidy crafter!

I thought as Quixotic Paperie Challenge blog was taking a bit of a Summer break - with a blog candy giveaway by the way - that I would join in the fun at Stamping Ground and join the What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW) blog hop!

Happy Craft Desk Hopping
Kim

Where Are You?

Blogadee, blogadee, blog, I've been a little AWOL, my last post being all the way back on Saturday - not good for my trying to post something everyday! But I've been battling with a big creative block hence the lack of things to show you all.

So I thought I would show you some new products that have landed in Quixotic Paperie instead!

Beautiful Sweet November Mermaid stamps:

Stylish Jenni Bowlin Pins:

Super cute Kraftin' Kimmie Miles Mouse Stamps:

So what do you guys do to get over your creative blocks? My usual trick of doing something completely different just isn't working!

Hope you have a super creative day.

Multicolour Stamping

I posted this recent make yesterday and a couple of nice folk have asked me how I stamped the Banana Frog planet in the different colours. I thought the easiest way would be to show you!

You need:
Your stamp
Something to stamp on
Range of inks
Little spray bottle filled with water.

I've used three inks in the pink/purple range using the Opera Pink as my lightest colour and Grape as my darkest colour, with Amethyst in the middle.

This technique works with all sorts of different colour matches so play around with the inks you have to find your favourites.

Step One
Decide which side of the stamp will be the lightest and which the darkest. Then start to ink your stamp with your lightest colour on the 'light' side of the stamp. I use gentle tapping of the ink pad on the stamp, better to put on too little rather than too much ink, you can always reapply as needed.

I pretty much cover the 'light' side and the middle of my stamp with the Opera Pink, making sure I get good pink coverage on the 'light' side.

I then use my middle colour, Amethyst, on the middle of the stamp, being careful not to leave any straight lines caused by the ink pad edge. If you need to diffuse any lines or marks then you can always reapply a little of the lighter colour to blend it in.

Step Two
Apply your darkest colour, Grape, to the 'dark' side of the stamp, again if you need to diffuse or blend the colour you can always add a bit more of the middle colour. I then very lightly go all around the edge of this stamp with the Grape colour to get the edge differentiation, you don't have to, I just like it on this stamp.

Step Three
This is the crucial bit! Lightly spray your stamp, this requires a bit of trial and error to know what is the right amount of water for the effect you want, so don't worry if you have to repeat the whole process - it is all part of the fun!

For me I like to have the bottle at least 8 cm (~3 inch) away from the stamp and I hold the both the stamp and the spray bottle upright so the spray is nice and fine and you are less likely to get any spitting or drops on the stamp. For this lightly water coloured effect I only gave it one spray, but it all depends on your spray bottle!

Step Four
Stamp out your image!

This is a wonderful technique to play with on all sorts of different stamps. It works beautifully on your 'block' stamps like this one, where a lot of colour is needed but it also works well on your 'line' stamps where there is more details. Get one of your flower image stamps out and have a go!

Enjoy playing!

Hello my lovelies! It is Thursday so it is Cute Card Thursday Challenge day and this week we have a fab one for you:

Anything But Square!

I've gone so not square that I've gone Stellar for you! Tee Hee! Yep, I've used my star nesties (which were a pressie from my wonderful OH) for this card, it does mean that the card is tiny, more of a miniature notelet really.

I've used my favourite monster from My Cute Stamps, which you can get from Make The Day Special with a little wobbly eye to finish the wee thing off.

I know, I know! You have seen this little Monster before here but I just love him so!

Have fun with your non-square makes.

Quixotic Paperie Challenge Blog Challenge No. 29

Quixotic Paperie Challenge day and this week we have a fabulous challenge from Rowena:

Fold it!

A project with more than one fold so I have a little decorated heart shaped box to show you. The box is a blank available from Quixotic Paperie and I've painted it with acrylic paint then decoupaged it with the lovely Kioshi Basic Grey paper. I've lightly distressed it with distress inks and then sealed it with a gloss varnish.

I finished the box with one of the yummy, sparkly Prima flower centres.

Can't wait to see your folded makes.

Grace On Film

Hey guys, I have a mixed media canvas to show you today, I've called it 'Grace On Film'!

I was lucky enough to win some gorgeous Darkroom Door stamps as blog candy from Rachel Greig's Darkroom Door blog and just thought they would be perfect for this project. I love mixing fabric, paper, embroidery and rubber stamping and the different textures and effects it gives to a piece.

There are a lot of details, that I'm not sure I've managed to pick up in the photographs - still trying to get to know my new camera.

The fabrics have been hand coloured and stitched with beading detail. The Darkroom Door image has been hand tinted and I've also added crackle details to the sentiments and yummy buttons to my fabric roses.

Thanks for popping by.

Alota Julia Bug Does The Baking

I recently got a super-nice surprise, it was an email from Helene, the owner of Alota Rubber Stamps, asking if I would make a card for her. She had been sent a picture of a card I made for the Quixotic Paperie Challenge by Elaine. The card used the fabulous Alota Rubber Stamp Stove (which was one of those stamps I just knew I had to have as soon as I saw it!) stamped onto metal.

Well Helene has got the card now so I can show it to you all. It has the gorgeous Julia Bug baking on her shiny metal stove.

I've stamped onto metal then manipulated the metal to add dimension, the other items are pieced on in paper or metal.

The lovely Julia is coloured with PrismaColor pencils and paper pieced.

There is more yummy baking on the inside as well - Julia has been busy!

Wasn't that the nicest of surprises? Thank you so much both Elaine and Helene!

Alota have their own challenge blog which I hope to have a play along with when I can and also you can catch them on Papercraft Planet - in case you haven't caught up with them there already.

So how you all set up for the week? I've got lots of card making and stitching to do this week, hopefully I can get some blog hopping in as well to see all your gorgeous makes.

Catch you later
Kim

Butterfly Wings

Hi Guys, I have another digital art piece for you today and this one is inspired by the challenge over at Art Creation Friday where you get a different picture inspiration each week to make anything you like with.

Here is my piece for the challenge and I've called her Butterfly Wings.

The picture below was the original inspiration which a quick Google search tells me is work done by the Victorian artist Charles Burton Barber, only I could not find this version of the painting just different versions so I'm a bit confused!

Anyone who knows their Victorian artists I would be very grateful if you could put me out of my misery and tell me what this painting is called - Ta!

Edit: Thanks to the lovely Diane for putting me out of my misery and letting me know that the painting is called 'In Disgrace' - thanks sweetie!

Have glorious Sundays.

Within These Walls

I've been playing around with digital art again and wanted to show you my latest result. I've called this one 'Within These Walls' and have used the fabulous free downloads from the Craft Stamper website plus a texture photo from my collection for this poor forlorn Edwardian lady.

Thanks for looking :)

Stamping With Bleach

Welcome to the Unity Friends With Flair Blog hop! To join in the blog hop please find the hopping list over at the Unity Stamps Blog.

Just thought I would show you guys a little experiment with bleach and fabric that I did for the Make The Day Special blog. I've not stamped in bleach before and have been wanting to have a go at it so I thought that I would have a go on fabric - you know me and fabric - I do love the stuff!

I've used one of my favourite Unity sets (I think I can probably say that about all of them!) Insightful Meadows for this one.

Think I shall play about with this some more - I quite like the effect LOL!

The next blog on your hop is Beate over at Fresh And Fun.

Thanks for looking and catch you later!

Quixotic Paperie Challenge Blog Challenge No. 28

Quixotic Paperie Challenge day in amongst the birthday celebrations and this week Elaine has chosen:

Go Wild!

I've kept the card quite simple but added some texture with Jute Ribbon.

A touch of glossy accents on his little shell to finish off.

Looking forward to seeing your animal makes.
