Spooky Saturday

Another Spooky make for you all today and this one is my DT make for Quixotic Paperie. Going all Halloweeny at the moment! You don't need to look away as there are no spiders on this one but there is a gentleman Skeleton! He is from the Artistic Outpost Haunted Halloween stamp set and when I first saw him I knew that I had to have him!

I've matched him with the fabulous Echo Park Apothecary papers and some chaotic stitchery.

If you look carefully you might see that the sentiment, also from the Artistic Outpost Haunted Halloween stamp set, is in fact hanging from a thread and is free to swing eerily around the front of the card.

When you pick up your Artistic Outpost stamps don't forget to get some EZ Mount as well.

ps. I've linked this up to the Artistic Outpost September referral program and whilst you are there also check out their lovely stuff.

Have a super scary Saturday.

Go With Your Heart

Hope you all had a good long weekend, did lots of fun relaxing and art making. I have my Make The Day Special project for this week and I went with a grungy, shabby chic tag using the Unity Itty Bitty and Authentique Co-branded stamp Go With Your Heart.

Such a pretty stamp. I've used the ZIG Black Sparkle Embossing Powder to emboss the stamp on top of an acetate panel treated with Eco-Green acrylic paint and ZIG Alcohol Inks which are also known as their Kurecolor Refill Inks.

The papers are from the Prima 6x6inch Printery paper pack (which I am totally in love with!) and then added some pearls to finish the piece.

Have you checked out some of the new stamps in the Make The Day Special shop? Here are some of them:

Paper Smooches

PICTURES OF THESE STAMPS HAVE BEEN REMOVED - people have been pinning these pictures into their 'Digital-stamps and Printable' boards on Pinterest BUT THEY ARE NOT digi-stamps they are copyright protected images.

Please respect people's copyright - not respecting copyright is stealing.

Which are your favourites?

Have a great day.

Ghosts Of Times Past

It is Saturday and that means it is my day on the Quixotic Paperie blog and I have another Artistic Outpost ATC make for you this week. I'm enjoying making these inky ATCs!

This one uses the Artistic Outpost stamp sets Bird Of A Feather and Windows And Doors.

I used Ranger Archival ink Coffee to stamp the girls and the sentiment and Archival Coffee and Sepia to add distress to the make. The door in the background is stamped in Archival Plum on a map collage background that I'd coloured with ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens from Kuretake.

The splash of colour was also provided using ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens this time with some stamping.

Some further detailing was added with embossing and metallic rub.

All great fun but you really should have seen the state of my hands afterwards! I should have taken a photo!

ps. I've linked this up to the Artistic Outpost August referral program and whilst you are there also check out their lovely stuff.

Have an Inky Saturday!

Cute Card Thursday - A Sketch

It's Cute Card Thursday and this week the challenge is a sketch. You can see the sketch and find out more about this week's sponsor by popping by the Cute Card Thursday Blog.

For my make this week I've used one of the elegant Japanese inspired ladies from last month's Kraftin' Kimmies stamps release and she is available, with her beautiful sisters, from Quixotic Paperie.

I've just realised she is my namesake - Kimiko - LOL! I've used her with papers from the Memory Box Pixie collection. I've added a bit of sparkle with the Viva Decor Glitter liner Holo Iridescent pen.

I went for a vintage-feel colour scheme to colour her, what do you think?

Hope you have a good Thursday and enjoy the challenge.

Where's Your Post At?

Thursday pm and I've realised that my last blog post was on Monday, by now you must be wondering where my posts are? Well the week has slipped past and I've not managed to finish anything. You know those weeks when you are just slightly under the weather but you can't quite put your finger on it? Well I've been having one of those weeks. Never mind, it will pass!

So rather than posting a make I thought I would drop by to give you some heads-ups instead. La-La Land Crafts fans out there have you seen the super cute new releases released at the CHA this week?

There are 14 gorgeous images including a Fairytale collection, a Halloween 2011 collection and a Christmas 2011 collection you can see them all on the La-La Land Crafts blog and if you hop over there now you can find out how you could win 12 Copic Sketch Markers! Yay!

Other news, the new Ippity July release stamps are available over at Ippity Inspirations, it is only a small release, well very small as there are only two stamp sets but they are both very cute!

Another heads-up for you all - Quixotic Paperie is having a Summer Sale so time to bag a bargain I reckon.

Summer Sale at www.quixoticpaperie.co.uk

Lots of yummy stamps and papers at reduced prices - you know you want them!

Well before I pop off to try and get something finished before the week completely disappears I do have a sneak peek at a work in progress, well more like a bit a play in progress.

I've used Kuretake ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens to colour this piece as I wanted that vivid watercolour colour they can give. By the way don't forget to pop on over to the new Kuretake blog to be in with a chance to win some fabulous ZIG pens!

It is one of those pieces where I just love how the background has turned out but now I think I'm spoiling it by trying to make it into something! Do you ever get that?

Hope you are all having creative weeks.

Catch you later.

Lulu Loves Her Poppies

Hey guys, have you seen the new Lulu stamps from Stamping Bella available over at Quixotic Paperie? I instantly fell in love as soon as I saw them and being a little partial to poppy images I could not resist Lulu Loves Poppies.

She arrived on my doorstep yesterday - Thanks Elaine! - and I had to ink her up immediately so I've made a little ATC with her.

You might want to check out the other Lulus - so lovely!

Do you recognise the background? I've used the same sweet wrapper background I used for my poppy make tutorial. I've obviously strongly associated poppies to this background LOL! Funny how that can happen sometimes!

We are having a Potterthon this weekend watching all the Harry Potter films before going to see the last one. I've just finished re-reading all the books again as well. If you've seen the last film already don't tell me what happens! LOL!

Maybe It's Because I'm A Londoner...?

Have you spotted the new Artistic Outpost kits in at Quixotic Paperie? Lurve!

Both are London themed so I am a bit biased in their favour as I am a Londoner! But I can't be the only fan as no sooner had the London Underground and Loverly London sets hit the shop then the London Underground set had sold out!

But never fear Elaine has some new stock ready to find new homes.

edit: Would you believe it? London Underground has sold out again! Think we all love these stamps! But don't worry Elaine has more on their way!

Here is an ATC I've made using London Underground.

I've linked this up to the Artistic Outpost July referral program and whilst you are there also check out their fabulous stamps.

Quixotic Paperie - Mini Book Using Wooden Shapes - Tutorial

Well it has been a busy month of tutorials here at Crafty Makes and I have another one for you this week. This time I'm using the wooden alterable shapes from Quixotic Paperie along with other yummy items to make a mini-concertina book. If you follow the Quixotic Paperie blog you would have seen this on Saturday 18th June 2011.

You might have noticed it is the round ornament bauble shaped wooden shape? You don't have to use them just for Christmas!

What you will need:
Stamps - Artistic Outpost Ephemeral Backgrounds; Artistic Outpost Birds Of A Feather; Studio G Alphas
Papers - Kraft Card; Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante
Colouring - Pencils
Inks - Distresss inks; Distress stains; Archival Jet Black; Archival coffee
Usual Suspects - Golden Gel medium; Gesso
Tools - Scissors; Crop-A-Dile; Cuttlebug; Spellbinders Nestibilities Circle dies; Blending tools and foam; Ruler; Scoring tool
Others - Wooden Shape Round ornament with hole; Fabric; Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Sprockets; Viva Decor Gel Pen Walnut; EZ Mount

Make A Template For The Inner Pages

If you need to make the hole in the wooden shape bigger then before making the inner pages template use the Crop-A-Dile to make the hole bigger. Then use the wooden shape to cut a rough template to give the size of the inside pages. I've made sure that the hole in the ornament is not covered.

Score And Fold Kraft Card

To make the inside concertina pages use the template to score a line in the Kraft card and
fold it.

Use the fold to score the next line and keep scoring and folding until you have the number of pages you want or until you run out of card! Make sure that your first and last pages are both folded in the same direction i.e. the first and last page are both valley folds when attached to the covers (see picture below - 'Assemble Mini Book').

Cut Inside Pages

For this step you can either use your template to cut out the inside pages, making sure you leave the left and right folded sides of the circle uncut to give the concertina effect.

Another method is to use the Spellbinders nestibilities dies. Pick the die nearest to the size you want and line up the folded Kraft card on the die, again leaving the left and right folded sides untouched by the die. Use the thinner cutting plate and some shims with your cutting machine and run the card and die through the machine a couple of times. It wont cut all the way through and you might need to experiment with the shims to get the right thinkness.

Finish cutting the pages with the scissors, the die will have left guidelines in the card it has not cut through.

The inside pages are ready to decorate anyway you want. For this tutorial I've used distress stains to colour them.

Prepare the wooden shapes with a layer of gesso and once it is dry colour as you wish, I've used distress ink and stains in this tutorial.

Assemble Mini Book

I used soft Golden Gel Medium to apply the first and last page to the covers making sure that the holes are next to each other at the 'spine' of the book.

'Bind' The Book

I've used a strip of fabric coloured with distress stains to tie the covers together, making sure that it is not so tight that you can't open the book. You can of course make the knot easy to tie and untie so that you can see both sides of the concertina pages if you have decorated both sides.

The book is finished and ready to decorate however you want!

I've linked this up to the Artistic Outpost June referral program and whilst you are there also check out their fabulous stamps.

Have fun with this tutorial and don't forget to come back to let me know how it goes!

Kim
