Missing In Action

Missing in action a little bit this week, the blog is unusually quiet for me I know, there has been a wee break in transmission for a trip up to Scotland and back.

But here as a way of appeasement is a picture of the M6:

That is what every girl needs - a picture of the M6.

I have had a couple of guest appearances this week so if you fancied a couple of tutorials from me there is one at The Odd Girl to celebrate Kristy's birthday and I have another over at the Kuretake blog.

Also don't forget the Cute Card Thursday Challenge this week.

Sunday Round-Up

Watcha Crafty, Arty Girls and Boys, how are you all doing today? Up to anything creative or maybe you are planning some out and about time with loved ones?

It's a full day of work for me today, such is the life of a freelancer, but least I enjoy what I do!

I did have a lovely day out in the amazing 28oC, blue sky and sunshine October 1st day yesterday. For those of you not from the UK that is VERY unusual weather for this time of the year. In fact I think it must have broken a record. It's the best weather we have had all year so far!

I wasn't the only one bemused by this heatwave! One of the folks we bumped into on our trip around Hampstead Heath - a South American Rhea, watching the world go by in
Golders Hill Park.

I got a bit snap-happy with my camera and took 245 photos - oops. Thank goodness for
digital cameras.

I only have a couple of links today and they are shameless self-promotions - Sorry!

The first is just to say keep your eye out for the latest issue of Papercraft Essentials (PE73) for a little fun article from me.

Next Buffy from Kuretake is interviewing all the DT (plus others!) on the Kuretake blog and it's been my turn this week if you are interested!

Before I go, what do you think about Blogger's new Dynamic views for blogs? I was thinking of having a play a little later see how it looks on my blog. Any of you trying one of the new formats already? How is it working for you?

Right, suppose I should go do some work.
Enjoy your day.

More Spooky Saturday!

Watcha folks, still on my spook drive with more spooky makes for Quixotic Paperie and this little spooky ATC has a little spooky ghost, if you look carefully you might spot her!

It's Mini Gothilia from the Make It Crafty MonstaGalz, I think I might have mentioned last time how much I love these cute little guys!

A Halloween ATC with a Make It crafty digi-stamp

I've used the spooky Echo Park Apothecary papers and a bit of stitching with some ordinary black embroidery thread but have you seen the WRMK Sew Easy Fancy Floss Glitter? - reckon they would look good with this make too! Ooo glittery!

Have a Super Spooky Saturday!

Happy World Card Making Day

I am so excited to be able to show you one of the fabulous new releases from La-La Land Crafts as part of the World Card Making Day 2011 celebrations.

These images are so cute and you have not seen Marci or Luka like this before!

All the DT are showcasing the new images and they will be on pre-order starting today with a ship date of October 15th. Pop on over to the La-La Land Blog to see all the new images.

So let me introduce to you Hunny Bunny Marci from the Harajuka Collection.

Isn't she just the greatest! (I really like her can you tell?).

Had to go all pink, black and lime for this one, she just screamed these colours LOL! The papers are Pink Paislee Bayberry Cottage.

A bit of button and ribbon to finish.

You are so gonna wanna see the other images

Enjoy World Card Making Day.

It's A Date!

Got any dates planned for the weekend? I've got a date with sunshine! Yay! Hopefully this Autumnal heatwave will stay, it is nice to see clear blue skies isn't it?

Got my DT date with Creative Expressions for this week and I've made an ATC.

I've got all inky for the background and stampy with the Vintage Typewriter Stamp kit.

Right, I'm off to try and get all my jobs finished for the week so that I can soak in some
last minute sun!

Have a date filled Friday.

Roll With The Punches

Another punchy make today and I've been a bit cheeky as it fits the Cute Card Thursday Challenge this week which is Animal Crackers so I've used it as my DT card.

It uses the very cute Kurepunch Small - Puppy.

Cute little doggies!

Don't forget to go check out the Cute Card Thursday Challenge blog to find out more about this week's sponsors, join in the challenge and of course to look at all the lovely DT makes.

Catch you later

A Little Teddy With A Big Punch!

My title is a bit of a play on words today. It isn't a teddy that punches, its a teddy punch! One of the Kuratake Kurepunch range to be precise!

Ok so I'm not so good with the word play!

But how about this for a congratulations card or a new baby card?

He is the Kurepunch Small - Baby Bear and he is ever so cute, even has a little bow tie!

Dinky!

So this is how grey mad I am at the moment (see yesterday's post for more grey madness) - the faux border stitching was done with a ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pen in none other than grey of course! You can get the pens over at Make The Day Special.

Catch you later amphibious reptiles (Alligator...! Catch you later Alligator - in a while Crocodile! What? You don't say that? Common phrase in our household)

Playing With Grey

A bunch of flowers for you all today and this is my DT make for Make The Day Special. The flowers are from the Flourishes range of beautiful stamps these ones are the Zinnia Kit.

I've fallen in love with colouring with greys, you can get all sorts of effects with greys, they are so useful. I used a bit of watercolouring with the ZIG Art and Graphic Twin Pens to colour
this make.

The pop of yellow really jumps at you doesn't it?

The lovely sentiment is also from the Flourishes Zinnia kit.

Hope you have a day touched with kindness.

Inspiration Monday {Autumn Colours}

Guess what day it is? Monday! Well yes it is Monday but by now I'm sure you know that it is La-La Land Crafts Inspiration Monday here on my blog!

The inspiration we are working to this week is Autumn Colours.

I've gone all Autumn Rodeo with Cowgirl Marci and you can get her as a rubber stamp or a digi-stamp.

Isn't sure gorgeous?

I've coloured her with my Prismacolor pencils and added a few Autumnal leaves.

With a little bit of fabric and oh no! Is that corrugated card? I'm sorry, don't know how that snuck on in there!

Now here is a question for you...how long does it take you to colour an image and
make a card?

This one took me quite a long time, I usually don't have a lot of time to play but I did for this one. I happened to note the time that I started colouring Marci and about 2.5h later I had finished. Then another 45min to 1h later and the card was finished. That is a long old time! I might start timing other makes and see what my average is!

Hope you have a fab old Monday, don't forget to pop on by the La-La Land Crafts blog to check out all the other Autumnal makes.

Catch you later.

Sunday Round-Up

It has been a while since my last Sunday Round-Up but I've been collecting links over the last couple of weeks, I just haven't got around to blogging them until today.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment or get in touch with me about yesterday's spooky post and I'm so glad I could bring a smile to your faces and perhaps slightly gross you out with the brown snot - tee hee! I grossed myself out too!

Anyone make it to Ally Pally yesterday (or going today?) for the BSSBS? I popped in and managed to meet up with some crafty pals Anika from Anikraft and a couple of my Kuretake Teamies Sarah Hurley and Emma Williams. It is always nice catching up with other crafty folks isn't it? Which crafty mates have you managed to catch up with recently?

Might have bought a couple of crafty things whilst I was there, well rude not too, oddily not loads, but that was probably a good thing. Did find some fabulous Sari ribbon that I've wanted to get my hands on for a bit but thought I might have to order it from one of the Textile shops I frequent!

Ahhh, what to do first with this yummy colour? It is too pretty to touch - Blast! Knew I should have bought two of them!

A little bit of news and a big bit of a thank you to the lovely Janine. Janine has been really kind and linked up my Poppy Tag from sweet wrappers tutorial on the wonderful Deze Is Ook Leuk (This Is Fun!) - Thank You Janine and welcome new Followers and RSS folk who popped on over from the link up!

*****

Onto the links!

Got some 'have you seen this?' links you might be interested in checking out if you haven't
seen already:

I loved this post from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer about rejection from DT calls, magazine submissions all that kind of thing, we have all been there!

Another one from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer is a little interview with Alisa Burke and I just love Alisa's Daily routine! I need to get my day balanced out a bit better - sheesh!

For you alcohol pen colourers out there Marianne Walker has a fabulous Copic tutorial for colouring with limited colours and grey.

Another one of my favourite blogs belongs to Tammy Tutterow, if you haven't checked her out you really must. I loved her recent tutorial for making seam binding flowers and they so look like silk ribbon embroidery to me.

Are you linked out? Can you handle a couple more?

Two shout outs the first for this great hole punching to make shapes tutorial from Joanne Wardle and then I just love this bit of stamping on wooden sticks from Faye.

Right I'm off. I shall leave you with this link to a piccy of Godzilla cleaning up after a rampage! If I had the money and the space I would SO buy that!

Have a fun Sunday

Enter The Monster

Hey all got some Monster spooky-ness for my Quixotic Paperie make for this week, but don't be scared he is really, really cute!

So after my mini-makes and review of Microcrafts yesterday I have more mini-ness for you today. I would like to introduce to you Mini Frankenstein's Monster from the Make It Crafty Mini MonstaBoyz Set

Sooooo Cute.

You can see he is mini as this is an ATC, so that gives you an idea of his size.

I've used him with Echo Park Apothecary paper which I've transferred onto an old book page on some corrugated card.

The brown snot running down behind mini Frank is a spot of Viva Decor Gloss Gel Pen in walnut brown.

Isn't he cute? Well he is just one of three in the Make It Crafty Mini MonstaBoyz Set and there is of course a MonstaGalz Set as well and it is just as cute! Oh yes I'm in love with these guys and you have to check them out!

Have a super fun day!

Book Review – Microcrafts: Tiny Treasures to Make and Share

Microcrafts: Tiny Treasures to Make and Share compiled by Margaret McGuire, Alicia Kachmar, Katie Hatz and Friends Published by Quirk Books

(Cover photo copyright Quirk Books)

Miniature crafts is quite a big thing (pun was intended) and I often see tiny versions of makes and projects on my hippity hop around the crafty Blogoverse. I’m a bit of a miniature freak and will find myself making those ‘Ooo’ and ‘Ahh’ noises whenever I see something ickle (aka little) and I get drawn into a world where all I can say is ‘Look how small that is’. So when Microcrafts: Tiny Treasures to Make and Share dropped onto my doormat - well, got picked up from my postbox but dropped onto my doormat just sounds better - I was keen to have a play!

Microcrafts: Tiny Treasures to Make and Share has 25 miniature craft projects from a number of different American crafters, designers and Etsy-ers. There are all sorts of different crafts from tiny little felt kitty cats to polymer clay trophy deer heads, they even have some extra ickle paper pieced greeting cards with ickle envelopes for all your miniature greeting needs!

I love the ethos behind the book, which is to use up and recycle all those little bits and bobs that you would otherwise throw out or in my case hoard forever because you can not bear to throw anything away.

The book is beautifully photographed and has a very clear layout with materials list and simple step-by-step instructions, which in some cases can be brief but with a little bit of common sense you will be ok. There aren’t any photos of the making process or steps, just different angles of the finished product. However, there are helpful diagrams for some of the makes. The projects range from the very simple indeed to the 'might take a little bit more thought and patience'. There are tips nicely sprinkled throughout with templates and patterns
where needed.

I’m not 100% sure who the book is aimed at, but I would think that a craft starter who is into the contemporary crafts would be a perfect candidate, someone who spends a lot of time window shopping on Etsy would probably love this book and of course anyone who loves tiny, tiny things.

As I read through, there were several projects that inspired me to have a go or kicked up some other ideas in my head, which I think is always a good sign for a craft book. Some of my favourite projects in the book were the Flower Pocket Pendants from Larissa Holland, the Dogs project and Monster Babies from Holly Keller, Hope Watthanahand’s Spool Dolls and the super cute miniature books from Melissa Jacobson but there were plenty others that also piqued my interest!

The resources included the list of authors and their websites at the back which is great, because I always like to see who folks are. There is a resources link list, mostly US-centric, and some further ideas and inspiration as well as a small glossary of terms and techniques which was full of tips for beginners.

Overall I think this is a very cute book; I like the fresh and clean way it is presented, some of the projects were just that side of too simple for me but probably would be great to get kids to play with. If I was going to criticise, it would be to say that I would have liked to have seen crafters and designers from other countries in the mix, not just America.

(I tried out a couple of the projects as you can see!)

As far as I know, the book has not been released yet and is due out in early October 2011, you can find it to pre-order on Amazon.co.uk or on Amazon.com so just in time for
Chrimbo, Yes?

(Just so that you know – this book was sent to me by Quirk Books to review. My views are honest, unbiased and unpaid, well other than a free copy of the book that is!)
