What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Sardines? Sardines? So what is with that ~20 year old Tin of Sardines?

No I haven't gone mad (?), but I just thought that after last week's What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday that I might give a little explanation about the Sardines! I did got lots of queries (and suggestions) about them.

Thanks Doone for suggesting that my ~20 year old tin of Sardines and your 10 year old tin of spam should get together to make 'Spamdines' - Tee Hee!

Ok so the 'Sardine' story:

*Ahem* (Clears throat) Well the story behind the Sardines is...It demonstrates the sense of humour of my wonderful parents as it was a gift from 'Father Christmas' one year in the 80's as a stocking filler and I've just kept them ever since - well they are quite pretty :)

They live in the Kitchen but as the Kitchen often becomes my 'Painting studio' they sort of live on my workdesk!

Have fun with your WOYWW and don't forget to visit Julia for the list!

La-La Land Craft Monday - Luka

I always like starting the week with a La-La Land Crafts make and this Monday I've got Luka with his Truck to show you.  You can get him as a digi-stamp or as a rubber stamp.

I made this card for my DT make for this week's Cute Card Thursday challenge which is being sponsored by Kraftin' Kimmies stamps

Such a cutey!

Before you go take a closer look at the little cogs in the top left hand corner. They were coloured with the ZIG Wink Of Stella pens soon to be released from Kuretake

Promised I would be showing you some more of these yummy sparkly pens!

Have a lovely week.

Sunday Round-Up

Another busy crafty week for you guys? How has it been?

As many of you know the huge crafty retail trade show CHA is on this weekend in the USA. La-La Land Crafts is there and if you pop on over to their Facebook page you will be able to see their stall (booth 4607). Check out the tablecloth and cushions - so cute!

You might even be able to spot some new stamps coming out and perhaps a card or two made by little old me (as well as the other DT girls of course)! I'm there in spirit, paper and card if not in person!

Another place that I'm there in spirit, paper and card is the Paperworld trade show in Frankfurt also running this weekend. If you happen to be going then do pop on over to say 'hi' at the Kuretake stall (Location 4.2 K69).

Other news from me, if you have a copy of the recent Papercraft Essentials issue 64 you might have spotted some makes from me this issue.

I can't show you the cards just yet but I thought I could perhaps just give you a little sneak peek!

Yep, you will recognise them as mine - my obsession with corrugated card continues!

Well, I think that is all the crafty goings on for this week.
Enjoy your Sunday where ever you are, whether at the trade shows or not!

See you next week.

Sharing The Making Of A Shabby Chic Tag

Some more Shabby Chic for you today and this one is a follow on from my Shabby Chic make from last Saturday that I did for Quixotic Paperie. It is a little Shabby Chic New Home Tag and I thought I would share some of the making process with you today.

What you will need:
Paper and card - Cream card, designer papers Pink Paislee Sweetness pad is perfect as it has some lovely Shabby Chic colours and the big flowers to cut out.
Image - I've used the SCACD Guardian Hearth and Home, perfect for my 'Home' theme
Glitter Glue - Viva Decor Glitter Liner Holo-Iridescent
Crystals - I've used some Prima crystals but you can easily use Flat Backed gems or the Viva decor pens with your Bazzill Jewel Templates
Other stash bits and bobs - Glue, leaf skeleton, keyhole, Alpha stamps, seam ripper, Blending foam/ tool
Inks - Distress ink, Archival ink Coffee and jet black

Layers, Layers, Layers! I want to matt and layer my tag so I cut out three sizes of tags with the cream card as the background and then the designer papers getting progressively smaller but only by a few millimetres. I've also cut out one of the lovely flower patterns from the Pink Paislee Sweetness pad, so pretty!

Inky Fingers! I wanted to slightly darken the pink layer as it wasn't quite the colour I wanted so used my blending tool and distress inks to roughly intensify the colour. If you haven't got a blending tool or even some of the Rangers foam, don't worry - dig out a clean make-up sponge!

Oh I'm just so distressed! Yep it is time to get a but distructive - be brave - you can do it! I use my seam ripper on the edges of the paper and card and if you aren't sure what a seam ripper is, or it is called something else where you are from, I mean one of these:

They are usually easily obtainable from your local haberdashery and you can often pick them up for under £1 (but I have seen them more pricey!)

Oooo Shiny! Glitter time is here again and I've used the Viva Decor Glitter Liner Holo-Iridescent on all of the card and paper edges to add more Shabby Chic sparkle. This step takes a little patience but it is worth it!

Ok so everything is dry, you have coloured your image and stamped out the sentiment so all you need to do is stick it all together and add your gems and extras!

Quick - Shiny distraction alert!

Enjoy your weekend!

Kuretake ZIG Art And Graphic Twin Pens Review

Review time! - Or perhaps I should say 'my thoughts and experiments with...ZIG Art and Graphic Twin Pens'.

Some of you might have noticed a new design logo in my sidebar. I'm totally thrilled to say that for the last couple of months I've been one of the bloggers lucky enough to have been doing some work for Kuretake.

Kuretake have a huge (and I mean HUGE!) range of pens and markers but they also do papercraft products such as paper punches, embossing powders, embellishments and lots more, perfect for us crafters!

I've been putting some of the Kuretake art and craft products through their paces and I thought you might find it helpful if I shared some of my experiments and thoughts on what the products I've tried do.

This week I'm going to start with the ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens.

The ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens are twin tipped, as the name suggests, with a brush tip at one end and a 0.8 mm point tip at the other. As far as I know there are 80 colours in the range and ink is water-based, xylene free and odourless. They make perfect pens for many watercolour techniques and stamping techniques, but I shall show you some examples of these later!

I have to show you this next picture, which is from Kuretake themselves, because I think it really shows how gorgeously juicy and wonderfully flexible the brush tips are, yep they really do look like that when you do that - I've tried it!

The brush tips are made from rubber instead of fibre, which for me does make a big difference for this style of pen. Like many of you I've tried a number of watercolour pens in the past and I think they have all been fibre tipped and not very juicy or flexible.

Ok so why is this important to me? Well first off it means that colouring directly onto stamps with the pens is a lot easier, you get really good coverage with the good ink flow and the flexible tip means it really does work like a brush, and I have an example of a make where I've coloured the stamp with the ZIG Art and Graphic pens before stamping.

But that isn't all you can do with these pens, a lot of different techniques are open to you and the more you experiment with them the more you will find! For instance the pens are great for colouring images either directly, as in the example below:

or by using a brush or a ZIG water colour brusH20 as in the next example:

So by now you can tell that I am enamoured of these pens and not just because I am designing for Kuretake, I promise!

Before I go I wanted to share some of my other experiments using these pens, the first I scribbled the ZIG Art and Graphic pens onto my craft mat and spritzed with water then laid the background down on the ink to pick up the colour. The rubber tip makes scribbling on the craft mat very easy.

My next sample shows you the results of a watercolour technique where you add texture by using salt to 'change' the movement of the water on the paper. This time it is the 'juicy-ness' of the tip that makes this a great technique to use with these pens! Notice the mottled effect on her dress below:

I hope that this has whetted your appetite for the ZIG Art and Graphic pens, and if you have them already I hope that you will feel inspired to get them out and experiment with them some more - I would love to see what you have been up to with them!

For more inspiration pop along to the Kuretake Facebook page to see some lovely work that people are doing with the Kuretake products.

Have a lovely Friday you all.

Blog Candy Alert!

I'm late, I'm late for a very important date - yep I haven't posted yet today, which is a bit unusual as I usually schedule my posts to the morning. But hey, better late than never and this is a quick Candy Heads-up for some blog candy over at Meyer Imports Everything Glittery.

Kraftkrap
It seems that John, Mr Glitter himself, has some bits and bobs - well LOTS of bits and bobs by the sounds of it - to give away.

Right, I'm off, will be back tomorrow on time!

Godzilla Is On The Loose!

NEWSFLASH...Roarrr! Godzilla has gotten loose in down town Tokyo again - D'oh! He is going around wishing people Happy Birthday!

Ok, so not really! It is just me using another of my favourite stamp sets - you never guessed did you?

I love this Eeek! A Monster stamp set from My Cute Stamp, available over at Make The Day Special. Thought it was time to ink him up again, so I've given him a bit of colour with my ZIG Art and Graphic Twin pens from Kuretake.

Also I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at some new pens from Kuretake that will be in the shops around Spring time. Oh boy I reckon you are going to love these!

They are called 'Wink of Stella' and they are ultra sparkly. This photo doesn't really do them justice, they are far more sparkly than I can show. So look out for them and you will definitely be seeing more of them from me!

Have a Monster good day!

Start The Week With Some Sugar N' Spice

Monday, Monday, what wonders will the week ahead bring? What better way to start this week than with the lovely Sugar n' Spice Marci from La-La Land Crafts?

She is available as a digi-stamp over at the La-La Land Crafts blog or as a rubber stamp from La-La Land Crafts online shop.

I think she is just a recipe for cuteness!

So what has the week in store for you? I have some things on my list that I would like to tick off, as always. Do more exercise and eat less biscuits are of course top of my agenda for the week! Yikes! Lucky I lost the biscuits last week under all my craft stuff

Whatever you have planned for this week I hope it is a lovely one for you.

Going A Bit Shabby Chic

I've got a sparkler for you today using the Prima clear stamps and Memory Box Pixie Paper with added sparkle from Viva Decor Glitter Liners from Quixotic Paperie.

Thought I would exercise my shabby chic muscles with this one, 'Jack of all styles, Master of none' Or perhaps it is just my short attention span?

Oh we do love a bit of sparkle don't we?

I've 'nested' the image on one of the fabulous Marianne Designs Creatable doily die cuts which works brilliantly with vellum by the way! For your charm fix have a look at the offers Elaine has at the moment!

That is it from me today.

Have a lovely Sparkly Saturday.
