Art It Friday - Show Your Face

Hey Facers! Don't go rushing to the bottom to link up your face just yet - I've had an idea!

I thought it might be fun to try something new for August, but I wanted to give you an early heads-up so that you can get your noodles thinking about it now.

During August Art It Friday - Show Your Face will become Show Your Face Inspired By {Insert Name}. 

For the month of August, that is four Fridays, pick someone from the Show Your Face linky to inspire one of your face shares for that week. It can be any aspect of their portrait work like how they construct their face, the materials they use, how they use colour or even how they use other elements like words or 3D objects, whatever you like. Just make sure you name them with a link to their blog (or social media gallery) in your blog post (or social media write up if you are using a gallery) and share what you were inspired by in their work.

So what is the point to Show Your Face Inspired By {Insert Name}?

The aims are to:
  • Give us a little kick out of our comfort zones
  • Try something new
  • Surprise ourselves!
  • Extend our technique / style toolboxes
  • Share some bloggy/ social media/ gallery love! 
  • Oh and have fun of course!

Rules?
Just as with the normal Show Your Face there are no rules other than the work needs to be yours! Try using a different person from the linky to inspire your work each week. It can be anyone from all the links we have shared since the start. Make sure you name them and link to them and as always please link back to the link blog post here on my blog for that week.

It is optional! If you don't want to take part, and you just want to do normal Show Your Face feel free, you can still link up your work, inspired by other linkers or not, through the August weeks.

Remember this will run in August, so you don't have to do it now and I will keep reminding you through July, but when you hop around the blogs remember to make a note of anything that jumps out at you that you want to try in August.

Right on with the usual Art It Friday - Show Your Face...

For anyone new here this is a regular place to come and inspire, be inspired, but above all to share our portrait progress week by week. Every Friday at 10 am (BST) a new Show Your Face blog post goes live with the linky to add your blog post or online gallery picture to with any portrait work you have been doing. 

 Your face can be drawn, doodled, painted, stitched, be made using any materials and can be any style, all I ask is that it is your artwork. If you use templates, stencils or stamps to build the face anatomy, then they should be ones you have made yourself and not someone else's.

 Finished pieces, works in progress or retro posts (i.e. older works, not from this week) are all welcome, so come join in and spread the word on your blog/social media outlets. Use hashtag #ShowYourFace if you like! 

I'll keep my share this week super quick.

Scribbled face in pen

I'm calling this style scribble face! She was scribbled in pen directly, I didn't use any pencil guidelines I just went for it. It was a bit scary! But I will definitely try it again. Just wish I could get the feature perspective on a turned face right. Practise, Practise!

    I think this idea of 'inspired by' is brilliant! So often I've seen ideas on blogs and thought I'd like to try them and then they've been forgotten, disappeared from the sieve that is my brain these days! Now this will be an incentive to record and get down to be inspired by the other artists! I really like how you just went for it with 'scribble' face. You're right about perspective too - the hardest thing, but we have to just practise, practise and then some more! Thank you for making Fridays such creative fun! xxx

    great "scribbled" face Kim! I tried this not long ago and should do it more often because it does help to improve and is also very freeing. Great idea for August!

      It is really freeing, you are right Linda, it was fun to do, but I did think I was going to need my pencil guidelines, but it worked ok without them! Glad you like the August idea :) Kx

    Thanks for putting this all together and the energy you put in to it :) Cool take on August! Your scribble face is a fun and fresh take from most of what I see out there. Nothing scary about it but then you are fierce about putting your art out there - for that in itself is inspiring <3
