More Monoprinting With DIY Printing Plates

You can guess from my recent posts here, on Facebook and Twitter I've joined the Gelli revolution!  I am a monoprint convert, well apart from the fact that I'm using the old fashioned Gelatine plates - you saw my post from Wednesday right?

Yeah, I've been bitten by the monoprinting bug and here are some of my latest prints. I've experimented with different papers plus mark making with packaging, bought stencils and some of my own cut stencils (the bird is one of mine).

The paint I've used is the Liquitex Professional Acrylic Artist Color Heavy body, it is perhaps not as fluid as you would want to usually use with this technique but I quite like the extra texture it adds to the finished piece. I might add something to dilute it next time.

I've used fabric and old book pages too, so there are lots of things you can print onto with this technique. My gelatine plate is still working, but I think I will probably only get one more session out of it before I need to make a new one.

Have a fabulous printing Friday!

  1. They are all beautiful - I love the birds especially....I keep hearing about geli plates but not seen one in the flesh or how to use them yet :) Love all the effects you've got with them.

  3. Fab! I love that bird! I am going on Andy's gelli print class with Brenda and Petra in May. Hope we can meet up too one day. According to Trisha we are just 'imaginary friends' until we meet up!

  4. Excellent, I made my own too a couple weeks ago, and loved it. just in case, don't throw your current plate, reconstitute it to make another. I did and it worked fine still.chop it up into bits or whizz in blender, I just attacked mine, melt in microwave and do as you normally do. some do this quite a few times after use. later it may start to have texture in it after a few re dos, but it produces a different look to your print x

    1. I not got one made up at present as I was at mum's so had fridge space to store it in, think I might make one here and wrap in cling film as you do but store it outside it's cold enough lol. when I made one plate I got in a right mess, gelatin everywhere literally, fridge, floor the butter that jumped out the floor another words I spilled it and its like jelly glue to get off. lol. x

  10. Kim, thanks for your visit & sweet comments on my card. Followed the link back, and was fascinated reading what you are doing with the plates & monoprinting. I've not ventured that far. I'm guessing the Gelatine is what we call Gelatin (plain) in the US???What you did on this post was absolutely riveting, and although I'm not familiar with some of the papers, you got some fabulous designs.I just joined as your newest follower, so I can get back to read about all the interesting 'stuff' you are doing. Hope you'll come visit me again too! TFS beautiful art work and fascinating descriptions. I don't do altered art, just tried the Reavely Dylusions sprays yes'dy. Didn't do great. Did better with my first gelato try...but I'm learning. Hugs

  11. Hi Kim!
    Good bug you've got!
Don't throw the plate away, just melt the gelatine again, and make a brand new plate! It will be colored a bit, mine was greenish, but it doesn't effect the printing.
